Mariah Martin is a senior majoring in Life Sciences Communication with certificates in Agricultural Business Management and Leadership.
Mariah grew up actively involved in 4-H, Green County Dairy Queens program, Dane County Fairest of the Fair program, was active in numerous agricultural organizations on campus and multiple internships in the agriculture industry.
“In order to bridge the gap and have conversations with my peers about agriculture, I plan to continue to take part in events on campus that help educate students about agriculture, such as Collegiate Farm Bureau’s discussion panels and Ag Day on Campus. Additionally, a great opportunity to talk to my peers is in classes. When other students challenge agriculture, it leaves a great opportunity to talk about agriculture and the future that it has. I also enjoy having conversations with my friends who don’t come from a non-ag background. They love to come to me with questions and I love to answer them!”
“My favorite way to start the conversation is on an emotional level with the questions “Why do you think that” and “Where did you hear that” These questions allow me to understand where these misunderstandings come from and allow me to use a better approach to address the situation.”
